Garage Doors in Peterborough, OntarioCrooked in the opening? We can straighten that.

A door sitting at an angle in Peterborough almost always means a cable has slipped off its drum or a roller has left the track. We relieve the tension carefully, reseat the door square, replace whatever let go, and look along the tracks for the bend or loose bracket that started it.

Peterborough information

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 64%Older homes

About 64% of homes in Peterborough were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

Original openers in older neighbourhoods often predate photo-eye sensors and rolling-code remotes. Bringing one up to date means a quieter motor, sensors that stop the door for a child or pet, and remotes that cannot be copied from the driveway, all installed in a single visit.

  • 57%

Single-detached houses make up about 57% of homes in Peterborough (2021 Census).

Where housing types are mixed, some doors belong entirely to the homeowner and others are subject to a condo corporation's rules on colour and style. Before recommending a replacement door we ask who has a say, so the door chosen is one that can actually be installed.

Garage door services

Our garage door work

Shops, warehouses and service bays in Peterborough have their own list: rolling steel doors, heavy sectional doors, industrial operators, safety edges and high-cycle springs. Alongside our residential work, we service and replace all of these and can set up a maintenance schedule that fits your operating hours.

Springs

Springs & Hardware

Hinges hold the sections together and let them fold around the curve of the track. When they crack or wear oval, the door binds and the panels begin to separate.

Openers

Openers & Access

Openers connect to the door through the arm and the trolley, and a poor connection here makes the door jerk at the start of travel. Adjusting the arm, replacing a worn trolley and lubricating the rail smooth it out.

Chain-Drive Opener RepairThe rail shakes when the door runs. The steel straps holding it to the ceiling have worked loose, the chain rattles the length of the garage, and a bolt has already dropped onto the hood of the car.

Off-Track Garage Door Reset

The rollers on the door have been squealing for months. Today one of them simply fell out of the track at the curve, its wheel worn down to the stem, and the top section sagged sideways as the door opened.

Our technicians in Peterborough carry the winding bars, clamps, stands and gauges the work needs and use them every time, on every door. Spring sizes are measured, not guessed; cable lengths are matched to the drums; opener force is set with the door balanced. The result is a door that behaves.

How a visit goes

Trade guidance treats a garage door as a system: sections, hinges, rollers, tracks, cables, springs and opener all depend on one another, and an impact on one section rarely stops there. That is why a section replacement includes checking what the damage did to everything connected to it.

Drawing: a house seen from the street. The van pulls up, the garage door is opened for the work, then it closes level and the porch light comes on.
  1. 1 of 3

    Arranging the visit

We agree a time that suits you and confirm what we will bring. If a photo helps, send one; a crooked door or a snapped spring is easy to spot.

  2. 2 of 3

    Looking before deciding

The technician inspects the door from the tracks to the opener, checks the spring size and condition, and notes anything else that is wearing.

  3. 3 of 3

    Doing the work properly

Springs are wound to the correct turns, cables seated on their drums, hardware tightened, and the balance confirmed so the door stays where it is left.

What to expect, in questions

(249) 494-2877

How often should the door be checked after this?

A monthly look of your own at rollers, cables, hinges and the reversal test keeps small problems small, and a professional tune-up once a year covers the parts you cannot safely handle: spring tension, cable condition, track alignment and opener settings. A door that has come off its track once is worth this attention, because the event often reveals wear that has been building for a while.

The wood around my lock is soft. Can it still be repaired?

Yes. The decayed wood is cut back to sound material and a hardwood block or a steel backing plate is let in behind the handle and along the stile where the bar guides sit. The handle, mechanism and guides are then fixed to that new material with through-bolts rather than screws into soft grain, so the lock turns without rocking and the bars hold their line.

What are the hinges made of?

Stamped galvanized steel, formed into two leaves joined by a pin or a rolled tube. The zinc coating is what resists rust in a garage that sees wet cars and salt, and it is why a scratched or bent hinge starts to brown at the damaged spot. Edge hinges include a tube that holds the roller stem. Thickness is given as a gauge, most residential hinges being 14 or 18.

What information helps when I call?

Where the damage is, at floor level, near the curve or overhead; what caused it if you know, such as a bumper or a ladder; whether the door is closed, open or stuck partway; whether any roller has come out of the channel; whether there is a spring above the door or springs along the tracks; and the door's rough size. A photo of the damaged length and of a bracket with its screws is very useful.

Are springs different for a heavy wooden or insulated door?

Yes, and this is exactly why the door is weighed. A solid wood door or a thick insulated steel door can weigh far more than a single-skin steel door of the same size, so it needs heavier wire, a larger coil or a second spring to balance. The technician measures the actual weight and selects accordingly, so the finished door lifts as easily by hand as a lighter one.
